    Do you think the “dark old days” of childbirth are over, and are you relieved to live in the 21st century, even if you might not agree with many aspects of current obstetric practice? I know I would – if it wasn’t for the fact that my East European country of residence got stuck somewhere in the 1950s. Maternity hospitals are so dreadful that hearing women’s stories about giving birth sound more like convicts’ stories of their time in prison.
